Mini Homestead Happenings for 2/7/2009

Posted by Shannon L. Buck on February 7, 2009

Hello everyone! I know. I have been MIA. A lot has been going on here. I am de-cluttering and deep cleaning our home, in preparation for me starting work again soon. I am hoping to have everything streamlined by then, so that my daughter and I both know what is expected of us each day.

Not only am I starting to babysit again, at the familie’s home instead of mine this time, but I am also trying to start up a freelance business. That will put me at working full time – plus – and not leave me much time for cleaning and such.

I have also been dealing with my depression. With my happy meds, I am doing much better now. It took the meds a few weeks to kick in, but I am dealing with life’s ups and downs in more positive ways, now.

I just received the newest issue of Mother Earth News, and can’t wait to have a chance to read it.

We have been having a string of bad luck with the small appliances. First, the electric mixer burnt out, then the toaster broke. Mom purchased me new ones for Christmas, but then the blender went. What the heck!?! So, now I am saving for a new blender.

We have gotten far too much snow here in Maine this year, and far too many nights/mornings where we are below zero. It is simply too cold this year to conserve oil. My plan for 55* at and 65*-68* during the day only worked for a short period this year. This much extreme cold doesn’t normally come about on a daily basis.

Hope you are all doing well!

How about updating me on what is going on.

Shannon, so good to see you back. I was beginning to wonder. Been watching for you. Yes, this has been a strange winter. Sometimes you just have to stay warm and hang the bill. I know. Glad the happy pills are working for you. Been there, done that. Depression can do some weird things to you, and it’s so much better to stay on top of it. Stress can pop out all over if you aren’t careful. When things finally settled down I was able to get off them, but they were a great help in the middle of the chaos. One of those things I said I’d never do, but I’m so glad I did. I also discovered that people who have not been there don’t get it at all. Still working on the freezer, but I’m slowly catching up with it and beginning to put some things by. When I get it all pared down, I’ll start back up with an inventory list. Take care, Liz

That sounds like my luck with the coffee makers. I was going throught them like water and after Lea bought me one for Xmas it lasted only five days. I understand about the heat. Its too cold here too. Take care of yourself.
